We were delighted to be approached by Black Country Women's Aid to design and build a new website for the charity. The organisation places victims' voices at the heart of their work and develops their services in response to the needs of the community. With a new name and image for the charity, the brief was to create a new charity website design to reflect this as well as their constant expansion, giving them the flexibility to grow and develop further.
During our discovery phase, we started off by understanding the hopes and aims of the new website from individuals across the charity. The new website had to be accessible, provide resources and direct users to advice, help and information using inclusive design and visual language. With the varying and wide target audiences, we needed to design a navigation and structure that is user friendly for now but that can also grow as the organisation does with the addition of new services being added regularly.
Rather than focussing on imagery which could pose a challenge to connect visually with such a diverse user base, we focussed on a typographic approach and using colours and themes from the new branding.
To support the colours and themes of each topic in the website and to add a level of dynamism to the design, we set about creating a set of custom iconography. Each icon is was designed and animated to promote the services and support available.
